Emmanuel Church - Plymouth Projection Screen Installation

Emmanuel - PlymouthEmmanuel Church of England church, in Mannamead, Plymouth, is a forward looking centre of worship within its community. For some years they have been using temporary projection screens to assist the congregation and when it was decided to make these into a permanent feature APi Communications were invited to submit a quotation as some strict criteria were being applied in this large mid-Victorian church.

The central nave of the church, which supports the roof,  is spanned by stone arches reaching 10 metres across. It was a requirement that a rear-projection electric screen be supported beneath a central arch over the chancel, a short distance in front of the high altar, as a projector was already installed here.  The screen needed to be concealed when not in use, so an electric winch was also installed, above the arch apex, which allows the screen casing to be lifted out of sight of the congregation.

The church is constructed with twin aisles running parallel to the nave and the many supporting pillars impaired the viewing angles of this chancel screen. So electric screens were installed at the front prospect of each aisle, with a roof mounted projector sited to suit. These screens were fitted to boom arms which hinged from the side walls, thus allowing the booms to be swung aside allowing an un-interrupted view of the church when not in use.

The installation required careful planning by APi Communications staff and we were pleased with the results and the complimentary remarks received. This is just one of many projects where we have provided a bespoke service and ensured that the installation is aesthetically pleasing within its surroundings.
