Bell P.A. Back In Business

Torquay's St John the Evangelist Church had discontinued it's bell broadcast system as the area residents had complained of the poor quality sound it reproduced. So whilst attending to the church hearing loop system, we assessed the performance of the bell public address and suggested how it could be improved. Our recommendations were approved and so we assembled a frame within the tower and about 20 feet above the old bell, onto which we mounted three public address loudspeakers. These are configured so as to project the sound through decorative features above the original bell louvres and so project the sound out over both Torquay town and the harbour. We chose to use only three drive units as the residents live close to one side of the tower and so this side is muted. The reproduction is now clear and bright, giving a most realistic impression that there is a full carillon within the tower (though it is in fact a cd and any style of ring may be chosen!).
