Acoustic Treatment for Community Centre

Location:

A sustainable community centre in Exeter has recently been built to replace a WW2 hut. It is a meeting point for many community groups in the city. The light and airy meeting space is a vast improvement to the previous structure.

The challenge: The hall suffered from appalling acoustics due to excessive reverberation from the lack of sound absorption in the structure and furnishings.

Our Solution:

  • We carried out an acoustic survey to calculate the  amount of absorption necessary to reduce the reverberation time to around 1 second which is a good balance for speech and musical activities.
  • We fitted absorbent panels as a gift to the organisation as part of our giving back to the local community.

Result

  • On completion of the fix our measurements indicated that we had succeeded in taming the room and creating a sense of ‘acoustic comfort’ where you could have a toddler group for example without coming away with a headache.
  • See and hear the difference in our video case study on our Youtube channel. Simply scan the QR code below which will take you to the video.

If you would like us to help tame your space give us a call.
